We know that when you trust us with your infant's care, you want to ensure your child is as comfortable as possible. Teething, which is a natural part of growing, is a common problem and source of discomfort at this age. Many parents use teething gel that numbs the gums and brings short-term relief. While this can effective way of bringing temporary relief if used properly under the guidance of your pediatrician, the disadvantage is that you can only use it a maximum of six times a day.  Furthermore, it may affect your baby's ability to drink if applied prior to feeding.  Here are some alternative tips - be sure to check with your doctor to see if they are appropriate for your child:

  • Frozen fruit / crushed ice: Visit the Cumming Harvest for fresh produce such as bananas, which you can cut and freeze or place them in a mesh feeder bag.  Give these to your child in appropriate, smaller portions to relieve the pain of teething.

  • Pacifiers: Place a pacifier under the water tap and to fill up the nipple. Place it in the freezer and wait for the water to freeze. This serves simultaneously as both a pacifier and teether. It works well for children that do not want to use a normal teether.

  • Teethers: Buy a few to keep in the freezer. Simply wash them after use and re-freeze again. They are affordable and easy to replace.

Warnings

Never use alcohol or aspirin, which could lead to poisoning and even be fatal in some instances.
